Big cat and rhino safari in India
Tigers in the forest, rhinos on the floodplain
India holds two animals that draw wildlife travellers from everywhere. The Bengal tiger rules the forests of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The greater one-horned rhino rules the grasslands of Assam.
You can see both on one journey. Pair a tiger reserve such as Bandhavgarh, Kanha or Pench with Kaziranga, where rhinos, elephants and tigers share the same park.

When to combine tigers and rhinos
Kaziranga opens in late October or November and closes by early May. Tiger parks in Central India run longer. The overlap from November to April is the best window for a combined trip.
| Months | Kaziranga (rhinos) | Central India tiger parks | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| October | Opens late, depending on floods | Parks reopen after the monsoon | Too early for rhinos |
| November to February | Open, cool, wintering birds arrive | Open, with cold mornings | Best combined window |
| March to April | Open, warming up, hot by April | Warm to hot, tigers move to water | Good, pack for heat |
| May to June | Closed | Hot, with tigers drawn to waterholes | Tigers only |
| July to September | Closed | Core zones closed for the monsoon | No safaris |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see rhinos and tigers on the same trip?
Yes. Kaziranga offers both, and you can add Central India’s tiger reserves such as Kanha and Bandhavgarh for more tiger time.
Are sightings guaranteed?
No. These are wild animals. Rhinos are usually easier to find than tigers, and we plan several safaris so your chances are as good as possible.
Where can I see one-horned rhinos in India?
Kaziranga National Park in Assam is the best place. It holds about 80% of India’s rhinos. Manas, Pobitora, Jaldapara and Dudhwa also have rhinos.
Do I need to book safaris in advance?
Yes. Park entry and safari slots are limited and often fill early, so we recommend contacting us well before your travel dates.
